Seeking Advise is a Good Habit, But Make sure that you use logic while applying it!

When it comes to Industrial competition, we know the stakes are always high and life is full of pressure. This is the time when the person sitting at the decision making profile feels the heat and seeks external and internal advise. One thing he/she should always know is that people will always give you advise basis their own experiences. There are no guarantees that the advise you are listening to is the correct solution to the problem in hand. It even might backfire at you. What needs to be done here is that you must your own sane logic before executing the thoughts of others.Any ways this is not exactly our blog topic and we are here to discuss something different all together. Today we are going to sift through data and find some of the worst advice’s pertaining to the skills development that you can get.

1.Train your existing staff.

This by far is one of the worst things that you could do to boost the skills of your team and could also be the worst decision ever. Why you would ask?, We will tell you why. See your existing staff is your life line. They have the experience and the know how that is running your show till now. They are the old dogs of your gang. As the saying goes “you cant  teach old dogs new tricks”, actually speaking holistically that is not entirely true. You can teach them new skills, however they would be reluctant to learn the new skills as resistance to change is the human mentality. Secondly would it be really wise to divert your key resources from the work and let them learn new tricks. In fact not. But what could be done then we cant just throw them away and get new people right??. So what could be the solution. As taking sudden knee jerk reactions can create distress amoungst the worker community and can be counter productive. The solution lies in taking in the fresh blood and training them in new skill sets. Schemes like NEEM Scheme of government of India can help you with this. Once your newly skilled work force is ready, then the existing veterans can be trained and up skilled gradually.

2.You dont need experts to tell you what to do.

You would hear many people tell you that you dont need experts to tell you what to do with your skills development program. That is utter non-sense. Being a professional that too experienced you should know by now that delegation of work is important and you should be a wise decision maker. You cant be everywhere and do everything by yourself. This is the worst mistake you can make. There are people out there who have the expertise that can help you reach your goals. They are running a business with this and there must be something that they are doing right!. Hiring an external agent for your skills development program is vital. But be sure that the agency you are hiring is capable of providing the solution to your problem. For example GOI appoints NEEM Agents who are trained and licensed to help you with your skills development needs. These guys know how to audit your requirements and provide a concrete solution to your skilling needs. These people are smart and responsible. So engaging them for your skills development objectives is not a bad idea. You should seriously be exploring this. A good skills development agent can boost your manufacturing productivity and act as an catalyst to growth. Having said that we would always advise to explore your options before jumping in to any conclusions. Such decisions should never be taken in haste.
