An organization is not just infrastructure, it more about its employees. The growth of an organization depends upon the performance scale of its employees. So it is important to hire a skilled workforce for any business that can manage to generate quality output.

Contribution of Youth

Just like a lifespan of human a country can also be represented by the maximum age group of people, it contains and India is so young that includes a huge population that is of age group between 20 to 30. If you see the streets or even villages of India then it is full of people of age group around 20. Its half of the population is under 25 and two-thirds of the population is of age less than 35. All these young minds are igniting their ideas to make their life better and take our nation to newer heights.

It is stated by one of the research that by the year 2030 approx Two hundred and fifty million people will join India’s workforce.

It is the advantage for India that it has a large portion of youth in its working age group.

What is workforce development and what is its need?

The real-time scenario is quite different, we are lacking in the skilled workforce. Though India is known for its percentage of youth in the current world situation. It has sufficient youth power but the problem is that is not skilled and without skilled workforce India.

Not only in India, creating new job opportunities for youth is the biggest challenge in all over them because of the lack of skilled workforce and it also affects the financial growth of the organization as well as the growth of a nation also.

A large portion of the population is facing the issue of unemployability and the main reason behind this is that they are not skilled and nobody wants to hire an employee that is no use.

Here workforce development plays an important role.

Workforce development is done to bring positive change in the working skill, workplace environment to get a better impact on the performance of the company.

It is not just about giving training to the employees, it is more about enabling skills into them and develop a learning ability into them by focusing on their short term goals so they can mold themselves as per the need of the requirement and earn out of it.

It is applied to the whole workforce that’s why it is a continuous and long term process with a broader vision.

Its main motive is to build a culture of learning and make the employees learn how to enhance their skills.

One biggest advantage of workforce development is that they are individualized and specialized according to the employees and it can be joined by the employees anywhere, at any time via any medium.

That’s why the  Ministry for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has been made to focus more to make the youth employable by nurturing them with their skills on the basis of their area of interest.

With the continuous changing world skill development is helping the youth to develop advanced skill sets to deal with the real world demand of the industries.

A skill based training provided to them on the basis of their areas of interest. Its main motive is to focus on practical knowledge more.

Advantages of Workforce development

1. It boosts up the employee’s moral confidence and makes them able to learn new skills that are required by the current changing needs.

2. It engages the employees in a better way and for a long time that also affects the quality of the output.

3. Gives the opportunity to employees to achieve their personal as well as professional goals that increase their satisfaction level from their job.

4. Continuous training and development keep the workforce updated with the changing scenario.

Some Workforce Development Strategies

There are many ways through which workforce development can be done and some of them are:

1. Apart from the traditional way of workforce development try to use online tools such as Learning Management System (LMS) to give them a chance to learn on the job with their convenience.

2. You can use webinars, e-learning courses, online videos to engage the employees in learning programs.

3. Developing the skills into your workforce may take some time, so encourage them to have patience and learn continuously.

4. Interact with them to determine their personal and professional goals and help them to resolve the problems which they are facing, it is only possible when you build a strong relationship between an employer and employee.

5. Take feedback from them to know whether the development strategy is actually working or not and what changes need to be done in it.

6. At last, put the workforce at the center of development to feel the sense of responsibility and give them chance to analyze this by their own that what they want to learn and what else they should learn.

Government Initiatives

Following government initiatives along with NEEM scheme are really helping in developing the workforce.

1.National youth policy

It is responsible to create a skilled workforce that is able to utilize their fresh igniting ideas and provide solutions for the development of an individual as well as of a society in a sustainable manner.it basically deals with areas such as skill development, entrepreneurship, employment, and education.

It’s another important responsibility is to support youth and develop new opportunities for them irrespective of caste and gender discrimination.

2.Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)

It is one of the flagship schemes of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Its objective is to enable a huge number of Indian youth to learn industry level required skills that will support them to earn more and have a better livelihood. In this scheme, the training assessment fees are paid by the government itself.

Key components of this scheme are as follows:

1.Short Term Training

2.Recognition of initial level Learning

3.Special Projects

4.Kaushal and Rozgar Mela

5.Placement Guidelines and monitoring guidelines

All these schemes have played a vital role in the transformation of skilling ecosystem.

To meet the demand of industry, skill India is training the youth to deliver better possible output in the corporate world. They also provide on the job training to the workforce to give them a practical exposure of the actual workplace.
